Post Box Update

I have changed the animation a little bit. I have added a step back when he leans back to consume the alcoholic drink so it makes it appear more realistic. In reality, one would fall if they were to lean back that far.
I have also added a short pause to give the indication of thought process. This is where the character realises their mistake and then get embarrassed about it.

Second Lip sync

I had this idea of a scenario in which a creepy piano player talks to the camera. The cigarette is symbolic of a bad person to add more to the character as well as the old creepy voice. The one part I particularly liked is the ending which he tosses the cigarette away.

Final Project

Here is my final project I have done for Advanced Innovative animation. I have used the same method as before to create each and every background functional. I have slowed down the animation a bit so that the pacing of the foreground animation didn't dominate the background animation. I have added some sounds for the folds and the animals as well as classical background music.

Character Progress

I have added in colour to my character model. Each clothing material has its own unique colour scheme. I have lowered the intensity on some parts of the clothing to not give out too much of the glow as fabric or skin does not give much of a glow. The top hat I chose the skin as a pale colour since William the magician is intended to be living with depression.

Phil Zerply
Phil Zerply is a senior character animator currently working at Disney Animation. He went to University of New South Wales located in Australia and earned a Bachelors degree of digital media. Zerply has worked on character animations involving Zootopia, Moana, Wreck It Ralph and The Boss Baby. He has also worked on Visual Effects for some movies including The Hobbit and Prometheus.

In an interview, Zerply mentions that on Zootopia, he had done a lot of character tests and cycle work for the background characters. There were some characters who weren't that cartoony but there were characters who were. Zerply prefers his character animations to have some variations to keep things fresh. His idea on Zootopia was to keep the characters more cartoony and exaggerated, which he finds a lot of enjoyment in.

Here is Phil's Animation Showreel demonstrating the character animations Phil has done. I like the excessive use of exaggeration in these animations. The characters seem to flow at a smooth rate and the use of bounces to the characters gives it a dynamic feel.

Clothing in the 1980s

I found this website online which presents the type of clothing that was popular in the 1980s. In addition that these clothes are mostly based around the USA. I think the particular ones that I would be looking for would be the formal clothing such as a suit or an expensive jacket since Adrian is intended to be rich. Kevin on the other hand would have lower class clothing such as dungarees and a tartan jumper.

Progress

I have used stop motion method using 15 frames per second to create the final project. I had a bit of difficulty with the lighting along the way since I could not complete the entire animation in one sitting and I was unable to get the lighting accurate to the previous frame before. This is the reason the camera has moved around a bit in the animation.

In any case, I am planning to use after effects to tweak out any unnecessary elements. Also the duck might be a problem since it's yellow and is extremely close to green so it might interfere with the green screen.
